Materials:
Dichroic Shards
8mm black color rod
2mm clear rod
Borosilicate 6mm rod
Assorted Tweezers
Tungsten rod
Mashers
Graphite Paddle
Helpful Hints:
Be sure to clean all glass, especially dichroic shards with isopropyl alchohol. Pick up the dichroic using tweezers to avoid leaving fingerprints.
Dichroic shards on clear glass are laid
out. Make sure that all the pieces are
turned glass side up so they are easily
picked up with tweezers.
Make a ball of black as a core form
for the dichroic pendant. Use your
tweezers to apply a piece of dichroic.
Marver the dichroic piece to the ball.
Apply more colors to the ball.
Pieces must be marvered smooth
between layers.
Transfer to a borosilicate punty. The
boro punty gives you longer working
time in the flame.
Super heat the ball for mashing.
Use mashers to flatten ball. Mash in
two or three stages to control thinness.
More small dramatic colored pieces of
dichroic are applied as accents.
Small pieces should be mashed
smooth.
Punty up with an Effetre 2mm rod
and remove the boro punty.
Special tweezers for making a dent
for piercing with tungsten pick.
Use your tungsten pick to open the
hole.
Use a cool tungsten pick on heated
hole to enlarge and polish it.
Remove punty while holding pendant
with warm tungsten. Fire polish the
punty mark and place in kiln at 950º
for 15 min.
