Gordon Smith was working at Kontes Glass Company when he saw his first glass paperweight in early 1980. He was so smitten with the piece that he devoted his glass career to creating his own little works of art in glass. By 1983, he was working full time at Wheaton Village, doing demonstrations while making flameworked paperweights. He is a master of the craft, having developed techniques for adding textures like scales to his paperweight works, offering a glimpse of hyperrealism in glass.
