Sharon Nyberg stumbled across one hour lampworking instructions while on vacation in Australia. With some coercion from her sister, she tried it out. After successfully completing her first bead Sharon was so intrigued with the idea of working with molten glass that she bought a torch and some glass and set out to make beads as soon as she got home. In 2004 Sharon attended ìThe Gatheringî in her hometown Portland, Oregon and after seeing all the beads and the artistís demos she knew there was no doubt about it, she wanted to be a bead artist.
Several months later, unable to come up with a plan on how to move forward, Sharon came to the conclusion that doing anything was better than doing nothing. After twenty years of working in a factory, she quit her job as a Process Control Engineer and jumped into the world of art.
Sharon now spends her time making beads and jewelry from her beads. Because she gets her inspiration from nature, her beads are often mistaken for stones. Some of her beads may give the feeling of looking into the swirling ocean or just bring a sense of intrigue due to the natural flow of the glass and the interaction of the colors with silver, which she often uses.
Sharon shows her work at some of the many bead and art shows in the Portland area. She has participated in Portland Open Studios and bead shows with the Portland Bead Society where she has met many good friends including the wonderful people at Beads at Dusti Creek who have managed to hunt down hard to find beads and given Sharon the opportunity to show her work in their store. |
