Artist's Bio
My husband Lance and I took our first lampwork beadmaking class at Beads by Design in Marietta GA. in 1999.† We bought a Hothead torch and fought over whose turn it was to make a bead. Loren Stump was also there teaching.† He gave us a signature cane and we marveled and wondered how he could write his name so tiny in glass.† After about eight months of practice beadmaking we took Loren Stump Level 1.† Since then I knew I like sculpting glass.† I use Loren as my primary instructor.† I would also send Lance to take classes, then come back and show me all he had learned.† Most of my ideas come from dreams.† I also problem solve this way.† The ideas and images will pester me in my head, until I finally create them in glass.† I find you also really have to be in the mood for certain glass sculptures.† I really have been into leaves, trees and plants lately.† I find wacky fish really enjoyable to make.† My main influence comes from my Japanese lineage and my time spent in Maui.† I do make beads for my store FlameTree Glass, Inc. as a job but most of my glass is done for my own enjoyment. |
