Biography
Nancy Larsen began flameworking in 1999 creating glass beads and sculptures, and has since evolved into creating beads and sculpture that are unique and individual. Nancy has utilized her love of gardening and the beauty of flora, fauna and nature into many of her glass creations. These inclusions along with utilizing both smooth and textural surfaces help contribute to the feeling and look of life, depth and beauty. Working with molten glass has allowed Nancy the opportunity to display her artistic talent and style into delicate glass creations. She finds working with molten glass at the flame seductive, inspiring and challenging. Nancy has studied with several masters of the art, and is grateful for the encouragement and knowledge she has received that has allowed her to develop into her own artistic self.
ARTIST STATEMENT
The Art of Flameworking/Lampworking allows me to pursue my fascination of molten glass while understanding that my artistic creations possess the ability to be felt, admired, collected, worn, or passed from hand to hand for generations to come. Many of my works are inspired by my love of nature and the beauty of flora, fauna and nature. This coupled with inclusions such as precious metals, gems, dichroic glass, etc allows me to create Glass Art that is pleasing to the eyes and the soul. Most of my Glass Work is created using Italian Glass. Creating my Glass Creations by the seductive flame of the torch, in which the glass reaches in excess of 2000` F, has allowed me to journey into the fascination of glass and fire that has mesmerized people for centuries. |
