Artist's Bio
My career in glass started 36 years ago when I was at a crossroads in my life. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life and at that point in history women didn't have as many choices for a career path as they do today. I knew I wanted to be different and creative and was looking for a path that would allow these freedoms. As luck would have it Don Lillie was looking for an apprentice and when I saw what magic can happen between the flame and a glass rod...I was hooked.
I worked with Lillie for a time until my children were born and then I set out on my own and worked from a small studio in my garage. I did small corporate events and craft shows. It was while I was at one of these craft shows that I saw another glass blower (which was a rare event in those days!). I was so impressed by his skills that it made me want to expand my base and improve my talents. He worked for Frabel so the next week I called and asked for a job. Years later I am still there and never running out of new ideas or experimentations with glass.
My passion drives me to work each day. What new idea can I try out? How can I push myself further? The world of glass gets larger every year as technology improves our color base and new tools arise to assist with our creations. Everything glass is new again! So hopefully at the age of 70 (which is still off in the future) I'll still be learning new tricks and coaxing beauty from the flame. |
